The carrier, USS Carl Vinson, along with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), reaches the region as tensions are rising with Iran.
Deployed San Diego-based ships in the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and Makin Island groups are now in the Middle East, the U.S. Fifth Fleet and Central Command announced Tuesday.

The sailors, Marines and airmen aboard the ships arrive after Iranian officials’ recent threat to close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for the world’s oil supply, and warned a departing U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS John C. Stennis, not to return to the Persian Gulf.

USS Bataan – ARG and the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Group (MEU) were relieved of their duties in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) by the Makin Island ARG and the 11th MEU.
The Bataan ARG includes PHIBRON 6, with detachments from Naval Beach Group Two (CNBG) 2, Tactical Air Control Squadron (TACRON) 21, Fleet Surgical Team Six (FST) 8, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 28 det 2, Beach Master Unit (BMU) 2, Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 2 and ACU 4. ARG ships include the Norfolk-based Bataan, amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), and dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41), homeported at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story, Va.

It does mean more than 20.000 US soldiers and 300 US air-crafts “just arrived” on Middle East area include numbers of USS George H.W. Bush on Mediterranean sea. We don’t know yet how many submarines and another war crafts as well as ex-Afghan and ex-Iraqi troops circle around. Still not enough?
